Fisk and Friends Celebrity Classic is once again a great success!

December 30, 2011

Carlton Fisk’s 4th annual celebrity golf tournament was held in November at The Founder’s Club in Sarasota, Florida.  Participants had an amazing time meeting the celebrity players at the pre-tournament reception and golfing with them the following day.  The tournament raised close to $40,000.00 to benefit the Suncoast Charities for Children.

By working as a team to manage their own retail and online used book business, café, and community space, youth develop the employment skills, leadership, and self-confidence they need to successfully transition to adulthood. In addition to store-based job training, youth are engaged in personal transition planning and case management to support their progress towards employment and education. The MTW model is premised on the belief that when at-risk youth are challenged with authentic and increasing responsibilities in a business setting, and have high expectations and a culture of support, they can and will address their personal barriers, create concrete action plans for their lives, and become thriving members of society.

Sports Legacy Institute’s 3rd Annual Impact Awards

December 14, 2011

SLI held its annual awards night on October 12, 2011 at the Boston Harbor Hotel.  This year’s award recipients were Dr. Ann McKee, Professor of Neurology and Pathology at Boston University School of Medicine and Co-Director of the CSTE, honored for her groundbreaking research in the neuropathology of Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy, and Kevin Turner, former fullback for the New England Patriots, who was diagnosed with ALS in 2010 and founded the Kevin Turner Foundation to support ALS research and concussion education.

The event raised nearly $100,000.00 to support SLI’s mission to advance the study, treatment and prevention of the effects of brain trauma in athletes and other at-risk groups.

This year's Impact Awards featured a full dinner - helmet centerpieces were provided by Xenith
