MLB FANS TO SELECT PEPSI MAX FIELD OF DREAMS TEAM AND GET THE CHANCE TO PLAY AGAINST AN ALL-STAR ROSTER OF BASEBALL LEGENDS

Selita Ebanks, Rakim y Ken Y, Justin Upton, and Felix Hernandez Make Ballot Selections

at MLB All-Star Game in Phoenix, Arizona to Kick-Off Promotion

Purchase, NY, July 12, 2011 – As the Major League Baseball (MLB) All-Stars take to the field, Pepsi MAX is giving fans the chance to create an All-Star roster of their own with a salute to the living legends of the game. Starting today through August 31, baseball fans across the country can log on to MLB.com/PepsiMAX to cast their vote for their favorite players in each of 9 positions.  For each ballot cast, fans are entered to win the chance to take on the winning Pepsi MAX Field of Dreams Team on their home turf next spring.

Fans have some challenging decision facing them. With three legendary players in each position – catcher, first base, second base, third base, short stop, designated hitter, relief pitcher, starting pitcher and outfielders – 30 MLB greats make up the ballot including Ken Griffey Jr., Ryne Sandberg, Cal Ripken Jr., Ozzie Smith, Greg Maddux, Tony Gwynn, Carlton Fisk, Dennis Eckersley, Rollie Fingers and Rickey Henderson, among others.

From today through August 31st, fans can vote up to 25 times per day with each vote counting as an entry to be selected as one of the four regional finalists.  In September, the fan selected PepsiMAX Field of Dreams Team will be announced and the four fan finalists will begin campaigning for their chance to take on this real-life fantasy team on the diamond with ten of their buddies.  The winner will not only get to play in the game of a lifetime, but will also get to do so in their local community in front of tons of fans.

“Pepsi MAX is all about creating unique, one-of-a-kind opportunities for MLB fans to help amplify their baseball experience,” said Mark Rooks, senior director for Pepsi sports marketing. “With this promotion we are looking to engage MLB fans by allowing them to tell us who they think some of the greatest living legends of the game are, and to top it all off we are giving them the chance of a lifetime to play against some of their all time heroes.”

When fans visit MLB.com/PepsiMAX, they will be able to spark some debate and challenge their friends by sharing their selections on Facebook and Twitter.  In addition, fans can view stats and background on each of the legends on the ballot and hear firsthand from current MLB players how they would make their ballot selections.

“It was fun working with Pepsi MAX earlier this year to create the ‘Clubhouse in the Corn’ and ‘Rally’ commercials and now to see how they are bringing that to life for the fans is amazing,” said Dennis Eckersley, MLB Hall of Famer and Pepsi MAX Field of Dreams Team hopeful. “The guys on the ballot are some of the greatest baseball players of all time. I’m honored to be counted among them and excited to see how the fans vote.”

To kick-off the Pepsi MAX Field of Dreams promotion, supermodel, Selita Ebanks, reggaeton stars, Rakim y Ken Y, and current MLB players, Justin Upton and Felix Hernandez were on hand at the Pepsi MAX footprint at the MLB All-Star FanFest to cast their votes. The promotion is an extension of the brands advertising creative, which launched earlier this year. As the official soft drink of the MLB, zero calorie Pepsi MAX took a creative spin on the Field of Dreams movie to create to spots – ‘Clubhouse in the Corn’ and ‘Rally.’

6 Sox players head to All Star game on a 6 game win streak

July 11, 2011

The Red Sox wrapped up the first half of their season on a high note.  After sweeping the Baltimore Orioles in an emotional series, the Red Sox enter the All-Star break on a 6 game winning streak.  They also currently hold the coveted top spot in the AL East Division, just one game ahead of the rival New York Yankees.

In 2003, Major League Baseball decided to add an extra incentive to the All Star game: the winning league earns home field advantage in the World Series.  This made the stakes much higher, especially for heavy weight contenders like the Phillies, Yankees, and Red Sox.

This year is MLB’s 82nd All-Star game and it will be played at Chase Field in Phoenix, AZ.  The American League team is heavily represented by Red Sox players including: Adrian Gonzalez starting at first base, David Ortiz starting at Designated Hitter, pitchers Josh Beckett and Jon Lester, Jacoby Elisbury in centerfield, and Kevin Youkilis at third base.  Jon Lester was recently added to the roster by player votes, replacing the Mariners’ Felix Hernandez, who became ineligible for the All-Star game when he pitched on Sunday.  Unfortunately, Lester is on the disabled list and will not be active for the game.  He will still be introduced and enjoy full honors as a 2011 All-Star.

Be sure to tune in tonight, Monday July 11, at 8:00 pm to support Adrian Gonzalez and David Ortiz in the homerun derby and again on Tuesday July 12 at 8:00 pm to cheer on the AL All-Star team.
