Blue Sky client Tim Wakefield is the 2010 Roberto Clemente Award winner!

The prestigious award, presented in honor of Roberto Clemente, a 12 time all-star and hall of fame right fielder for the Pittsburgh Pirates, is given each year to a player who “combines a dedication to giving back to the community with outstanding skills on the baseball field.”

Wakefield has been nominated for the award eight times.  MLB Commissioner Bud Selig and Vera Clemente, widow of Roberto Clemente, presented the award to Tim on Thursday, October 28th at AT & T Park, prior to Game 2 of the World Series.

“You’ve probably heard me say this 1,000 times: It really doesn’t matter what you do on the field.  What matters most is making a difference in someone else’s life.  Roberto was a class act when it came to that.  This is the ultimate.  This is the highest.  This has nothing to do with baseball.  It has nothing to do with your statistics or anything.  It has to do with your character.  You guys who know me in Boston, I take a lot of pride in my character.  This is an award for character, which ultimately is the highest accomplishment I can attain, or the highest compliment you can get from somebody.  I’m very honored and humbled at the same time to accept this award.” – Tim Wakefield

Tim is actively involved in supporting such charities as Pitching in for Kids, The Jimmy Fund, The Franciscan Hospital for Children and the Space Coast Early Intervention Center.

We are extremely proud of Tim for being an exemplary player both on and off the field.
