Doug Flutie continues work for Capital One Cup with radio tour

As a member of the Board of Advisors for the Capital One Cup program, Doug called in to several radio stations across the country on Tuesday to discuss the Capital One Cup and other current events in the sports world.

“The Capital One Cup is awarded annually to each of the top men’s and women’s Division I college athletics programs in the country. Points toward the Capital One Cup are earned and tracked throughout the year based on final standings of NCAA Division I Championships and final official coaches’ polls. One winning men’s and one winning women’s program will be crowned after the completion of the final NCAA spring championships. Each winning athletic program will receive the Capital One Cup and $200,000 to fund student-athlete graduate-level scholarships. Winners will be announced at the annual ESPY awards.”

Cam Neely to receive 2010 Lester Patrick Trophy

The Bruins President is at the top of the list of 4 recipients this year.  The trophy is granted in memory of Lester Patrick, player and long time coach of the New York Rangers, and is awarded to individuals who have provided outstanding service to hockey in the United States.

The 2010 trophy will be presented to Neely, Boston University hockey coach Jack Parker, Boston College hockey coach Jerry York and AHL President David Andrews in a ceremony at the TD Garden on October 27, 2010.

Travis Roy speaks to groups across the country

Blue Sky client Travis Roy has had a full schedule recently, speaking to groups in Maryland, Ohio, Maine and Massachusetts.  This past Saturday, he was up bright and early to share his motivational message with production supervisors at Bath Iron Works in Topsham, ME.  Afterward, he returned to Boston to speak to life care planners at the American Association of Nurse Life Care Planners’ national conference at the Park Plaza Hotel.

Tuesday morning, it was back up to Maine for the Maine Municipal Association’s annual conference at the Augusta Civic Center.  Travis was the keynote speaker at the conference’s opening event.  You can read more about Travis’ visit to Augusta here.

Marco Sturm’s 1st Annual Poker Party

On September 15th, the Boston Bruin’s Marco Sturm held his first annual charity event, Sturmy’s Poker Party.  Proceeds went to benefit the Boston Bruins Foundation and the Franciscan Hospital for Children.  Blue Sky ran the event, which took place at The Liberty Hotel in Boston, MA.

Kathryn Tappen from NESN served as the event emcee and Marco opened up the program with a heartfelt thank you to all in attendance.  98.5 The Sports Hub’s Toucher and Rich were also on hand to run the live auction.

The 160 poker seats sold out days before the event, but that didn’t stop additional guests from lining up at the door with hopes of a no-show.

Each table of 9 had one celebrity poker player, the majority of which were Marco’s teammates.  The Texas Hold ’em tournament lasted for approximately 3 hours.  It was a fun-filled night for all in attendance!
